Stand Together Network Homelessness

Campaigning for housing justice

We are urging the government to build more social housing.

We need to act now.

Because home is everything, home is a human right. No one should be homeless and feel alone; together, let’s end homelessness by helping people off the streets, and taking their first steps out of homelessness.

With rents skyrocketing and the cost of living rising, more and more people are being forced into homelessness. Some of them will end up on the street, others in temporary accommodation not even fit for a night’s stay. A lack of good-quality, truly affordable housing has pushed millions of households into the expensive private rented sector. The cost of housing benefit has also ballooned as more people need support to pay their rent in the private rented sector, rather than the cheaper cost of renting a social home.

At the latest count, 2.44 million people in Britain claimed housing benefit, with private renters accounting for more than a fifth of claimants.

Help us to fight for housing justice. With over 1 million households waiting for social homes, join us today in calling on the government to urgently invest in a new generation of social housing.

Every day we deal with people who are threatened with eviction, or unable to cope with the mortgage payments and they do not know how to go about renting or buying a home or just finding somewhere to live. The research shows that we need the government to start building at least 90,000 social homes a year to end the housing emergency.

The maths is simple. If there are more homes that are genuinely affordable, with rents tied to local income, there’ll be less people experiencing homelessness. Between 2012 and 2022, fewer than 300,000 new local authority or housing association homes were added to the market – less than a quarter of what was being built 50 years ago.

Housing issues and prices will always arise; therefore, everyone needs to know its rights and responsibilities to end the crisis.

Our campaign aims to defend the right to secure safe home, fight for housing justice, and try to prevent homelessness and support people at every step of their recovery from homelessness. We want to take  action to deliver better outcomes for people in need.
